에이큰은 아일랜드 더블린에서 태어났고, 옥스포드 성 앤 컬리지를 졸업하였다. 그녀는 리차드 버튼 프로덕션의 작품 < Doctor Faustus>의 단역으로 영화에 데뷔하였다.
이후 영화배우로 활약하면서 연극에도 출연하였으며, 연출을 맡기도 하였다. 그녀는 작품의 프로듀서로도 활동하고 있으며, 책도 출간하였다.
