카메론 매킨토시 경은 성공한 영국 출신 공연제작자이다. 스코틀랜드 출신의 아버지와 몰타 섬 출신의 어머니를 둔 그는 런던의 엔필드에서 태어났다. 어머니의 종교였던 로마 카톨릭 방식으로 자랐고, 영국 바스 지역의 프라이어 파크 컬리지를 다녔다. 남동생 로버트 매킨토시 또한 공연제작자이다.

<Anything Goes>, 손드하임의 <Side By Side>, <The Card>, <My Fair Lady>, <Tom Foolery> 등의 초기 제작공연을 지나, 1981년에 <Cats>의 제작으로 빅히트를 치는데, 이는 런던 웨스트엔드 최장기 공연 기록을 몇 년간 달성하다가 그의 또 다른 작품 <Les Miserables>에 의해 갱신되었다. <Cats>는 브로드웨이에서도 비슷한 흥행기록을 세웠다.

매킨토시가 제작한 다른 유명 작품들로는 <Miss Saigon, <The Phantom of the Opera>, <Five Guys Named Moe>, <Martin Guerre> 등이 있다.

1995년에 매킨토시는 런던에서 열린 <Les Miserables> 의 10주년 기념 콘서트를 제작하였다. 뿐만 아니라, 1990년대 국립극장(National Theatre) 무대에 올려진 <Oklahoma!>, <My Fair Ladd>, <Carousel>의 웨스트 엔드 재공연 작품들의 총책임자이기도 했다.

그가 제작을 맡았던 작품 중 조금 덜 알려진 <Moby Dick>과 존 업다이크의 <The Witches of Eastwick> 등은 호평에도 불구하고 9.11 테러 직후 관광객의 감소로 막을 내리게 되었다.

매킨토시는 <Mary Poppins>의 각색에 참여한 것을 인연으로 2004년과 2006년 브로드웨이 공연의 제작을 맡게 되었다. 그는 또한 2006년 6월 1일 노엘 카워드 극장(Noel Coward Theatre)에서 개막한 런던공연을 공동제작하기도 했다.

1998년에 그는 <Hey, Mr. Producer!> 라는 갈라 콘서트로 자신의 공연제작 30주년을 기념하였는데, 이 콘서트는 그가 평생 제작에 참여했던 작품들의 삽입곡으로 만들어졌다. 공연은 6월 7, 8일 이틀간 열렸고, 이익금은 왕립 맹인학교와 자선극장단체로 보내졌다. 유명인사들이 대거 참석했고, 특히 8일 공연은 여왕과 필립 왕자도 관람했다.

그는 최근 경시되어온 아시아와 아프리카 종교를 뮤지컬로 제작하는 일에 관심을 보이며, 이들 문화가 가진 무한한 잠재력을 언급했다.

매킨토시가 설립한 델폰 매킨토시 그룹(Delfont Mackintosh group)은 Prince Edward, the Prince of Wales, the Novello, the Queen's, the Gielgud, the Wyndham's, the Noel Coward 등 런던의 극장 7개를 소유하고 있다.

2006년에 매킨토시는 The Independent on Sunday지가 주관하는 The Independent on Sunday's Pink List에 4번째로 이름을 올렸는데, 이는 공개적으로 당당하게 활동 중인 동성애자들 중 가장 영향력 있는 인물들의 명단이다. 그는 2005년도에도 4위에 이름을 올렸었고, 2000년 이래 처음으로 2007년판 The Stage 100 리스트의 최고봉에 오르기도 했다. 이는 매년 말 발표되는 공연예술계에서 가장 영향력 있는 100명의 인물들의 명단이다.

매킨토시는 호주 출신의 공연사진작가 마이클 르 포어 트렌치와 15년간 파트너로 지냈는데, 그는 런던을 기반으로 하는 에이즈바이러스감염자 관련 자선단체인 The Food Chain의 후원자이다.
