댄서, 가수, 배우
오하이오주 노우드 출생. 어릴때부터 댄서로 꿈을 꾸었다.

1947년 차키리스는 영화 <Song of Love>에서 코러스인 댄서로 데뷔하였다. <Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, 1953>에 출연하였고, <White Christmas>와 <Flower Drum Song>, <Brigadoon> 에 출연하였다.

뮤지컬 영화 <West Side Story, 1961>에서 베르나르도 역을 맡아 아카데미 어워드 남우조연상을 수상하였다. <Diamond Head, 1963>과 <Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, 1967>에 출연하였다.

70년부터 90년대가지 영화와 TV 쇼등에 출연하고 있다.
