이스턴은 스코틀랜드 출신. 그녀는 영화 <The Way We Were>로 데뷔를 하게 되는데 바브라 스트라이샌드와 함께 출연하게 된다. 그녀는 1975뇬부터 79년까지 로얄 스코티쉬 아카데미에서 트레이닝을 받는다.
1980년대 그녀의 첫 번째 싱글 앨범 “Modern Girl”을 내어 놓았고, 두 번째 싱글 “9 to 5”를 내어 놓아 영국 싱글 차트 3위에 랭크된다. “9 to 5”는 돌리파튼의 히트 영화 타이틀 송으로 사랑 받았다. “Modern Girl”은 제임스 본드 테마음악이 되었고, 그래미어워드에서 우수상을 수상하였다. 음반 작업을 꾸준하게 하면서 음반을 내어 놓았고, 콘서트와 TV 출연, 영화, 뮤지컬 무대에서 그녀의 모습을 볼 수 있다.
